Highlights of the DAMP 2025-29

Below highlights are the areas we will focus on for the next 4 years
  • Cat curfew

An extension to a 24hr containment order commencing December 2026

  • Dog poo

Continued education of dog owners about their responsibilities to clean up after their dogs.

  • Trespassing cats

Educate community on how to safely trap trespassing cats.

  • Dogs off leash

Continue education on keeping dogs on-leash outside designated dog off-leash areas.

Background

Every four years, councils are required to review their Domestic Animal Management Plan (DAMP) and develop a new one. Wyndham is currently reviewing its previous DAMP and preparing a new plan for the next four years.

Key items in the DAMP:

  • Promotion of responsible pet ownership for both cats and dogs.
  • Protection and prevention of wandering cats. The RSPCA acknowledges that cats prevented from wandering have an increased life expectancy of 10 years.
  • Minimise the risk of attack by dogs on people and animals
  • Encourage the registration and identification of dogs and cats
  • Minimise the potential for dogs and cats to create nuisance.

Feedback from the Cat Curfew Review will also be considered as we develop our new draft DAMP.
